President Richard C. Levin has appointed two search committees. One will assist him in finding a successor to outgoing Dean Jared Cohon of the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, F&ES, and the other will help him seek a successor to Susan Vogel, the Henry J. Heinz II Director of the Yale University Art Gallery.

Forestry School Dean

William H. Smith, professor of forest biology and associate dean of F&ES, will chair the committee searching for Dean Cohon's successor. Also appointed to the committee are Thomas Graedel, adjunct professor at F&ES; Carol M. Rose, the Gordon Bradford Tweedy Professor of Law and Organization; Ronald B. Smith, professor and chair of geology and geophysics; Elisabeth S. Vrba, professor of geology and geophysics and biology, curator of vertebrate paleontology and osteology at the Peabody Museum and director of the Institute for Biospheric Studies; Gunter P. Wagner, professor of biology; and John P. Wargo, associate professor of environmental risk analysis and policy at F&ES and associate professor of political science.

John C. Gordon, the Pinchot Professor of Forestry and Environmental Studies and former dean of the school, has agreed to serve an additional year as dean while the search for Dean Cohon's successor proceeds, President Levin has announced. Professor Gordon will assume this role on July 1.

Yale Art Gallery Director

Chairing the committee searching for Ms. Vogel's successor will be David Pease, dean and professor of painting at the School of Art. Serving on the committee will be Thomas E. Crow, the Lehman Professor of the History of Art; Richard S. Field, curator of prints, drawings and photographs and associate director of the Yale University Art Gallery; Diana E. E. Kleiner, deputy provost for the arts and the Dunham Professor of Classics and History of Art; Susan B. Matheson, curator of ancient art at the art gallery; Frederick R. Mayer, chair of the governing board of the Yale University Art Gallery; Patrick McCaughey, director of the Yale Center for British Art; Edmund P. Pillsbury, a former director of the gallery who is now director of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas; and Jules D. Prown, director of graduate studies and the Paul Mellon Professor of the History of Art.

Members of the Yale community are invited to contact members of both committees with their comments, suggestions and nominations for the two searches.
