AYA's Eustace Theodore to head CASE

Eustace D. Theodore, who has been a fixture on campus for over a quarter-century, has been named president of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He will become CASE's sixth president on Oct. 15.

A 1963 graduate of Yale College, Mr. Theodore has been executive director of the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) since 1981. Working with a staff of 30 full-time and more than 100 part- time employees, he has been responsible for coordinating the alumni activities for more than 130,000 living Yale graduates. He has overseen the AYA's structure and budget, the operation of 135 Yale clubs and associations worldwide, the University's continuing education program for alumni, and reunions and special assemblies of alumni from Yale College and the graduate and professional schools. He previously served as dean of Calhoun College 1972-81 and taught courses in sociology and American studies at the University.

"As I prepare to leave New Haven after almost a quarter of a century as director and dean, I gratefully acknowledge the education provided by my Yale professional and volunteer colleagues," says Mr. Theodore. "They allowed me to have the opportunity to learn from experience, as well as from some of the finest practitioners and volunteers in higher education."

In addition to his work at Yale, Mr. Theodore has published numerous articles on urban affairs and served as a consultant to businesses and the government on issues of race and sex discrimination.

CASE is an international association of professionals from colleges, universities and independent elementary and secondary schools who work in the areas of alumni relations, communications and philanthropy. Mr. Theodore has served on the CASE board of trustees since 1992 and has been secretary of the board since 1996. He has been a member of the CASE (Europe) Board since 1995 and chaired CASE's Commission on Alumni Relations 1993-96.

Judith Cole, director of University relations for the AYA, has been appointed to serve as acting director of the University's alumni association until Mr. Theodore's permanent successor is named.
