Yale Art Gallery hosting Roman Family Fair

All roads lead to Rome, as the old saying goes. On Saturday, Oct. 5, however, York and Chapel streets will be the byways-of-choice leading to a free Roman holiday at the Yale University Art Gallery.

The gallery, which is located at the intersection of those two streets, is hosting a Roman Family Fair in conjunction with its special exhibit "I, Claudia: Women in Ancient Rome," on view through Dec. 1.

The fair, which will be held 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m., is designed for both children and grown-ups. Fairgoers can:

Highlighting the afternoon will be a reading by poet John Hollander, Sterling Professor of English, of his translations of the poems of Sulpicia, which are the only surviving literary works by a Roman woman. Professor Hollander will also read works by Ovid and Juvenal.
