Lecture will outline how World Bank must change to meet future challenges

James D. Wolfensohn, president of The World Bank Group, will visit the campus as a Gordon Grand Fellow on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

At 11:45 a.m. that day, he will deliver a Gordon Grand Lecture on the topic "Restructuring the World Bank for the 21st Century: The Management Challenge." His talk, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the General Motors Room of Horchow Hall, 55 Hillhouse Ave.

Since becoming president of The World Bank Group in 1995, Mr. Wolfensohn has traveled widely to gain first-hand experience of the challenges facing the bank and its 180 member countries. He has formed new strategic partnerships between The World Bank and the governments it serves, as well as with the private sector, regional development banks and the United Nations.

Under his leadership, The World Bank has committed $2 billion to provide multilateral debt relief to heavily indebted poor countries. He also began The Strategic Compact, a major bank reform program aimed at fighting poverty.
