Director of America Reads Challenge to celebrate launch of local program by Yale, city

Yale and the New Haven Free Public Library will host a talk and discussion with Carol Rasco, senior adviser to U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley, on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 4:30 p.m., at the New Haven Free Public Library program room, 133 Elm St. A reception will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m. at the Yale Visitor Information Center, 149 Elm St.

Ms. Rasco directs the America Reads Challenge, President Clinton's national initiative to ensure that all children read independently and well by the end of the third grade. Her talk will celebrate the City of New Haven's renewed commitment to its public library, which is marking its 110th anniversary, and the recent launch of America Reads at Timothy Dwight School as a collaboration among the New Haven Public Schools, the New Haven Free Public Library and Yale. Prior to her talk, Ms. Rasco will visit Timothy Dwight School to meet with Yale volunteers in the America Reads program.
