A speech by United Farm Workers (UFW) president Arturo Rodriguez, panel discussions, a song and theater performance, and a film screening are among the events being offered as part of "Solidarity and Struggle: A Teach-in of the Labor Movement," Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 11-13.
The three-day teach-in, sponsored by the Yale Support Group of the UFW, will begin on Tuesday at 4 p.m. with a panel discussion on "Organizing Immigrant Workers." It will be followed by a 6:30 p.m. reception for an exhibit of photographs by Jane Chen and an 8 p.m. panel discussion, both focusing on unions in New Haven and at Yale. All of these events will take place in the Yale Women's Center, 198 Elm St.
From noon until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, song and theater performances titled "Voces de la Lucha" will take place on Cross Campus, Wall and College streets. A panel on "The Changing Faces of Labor" will follow at 4 p.m. in Rm. 208 of William L. Harkness Hall, 100 Wall St. Later that evening, at 8 p.m. the film "Si Se Puede: Sacrifice and La Causa" will be screened in the Silliflicks Theater of Silliman College, 505 College St. A discussion will follow.
On Thursday, there will be two events featuring Mr. Rodriguez. He will be the guest at a tea at 5 p.m. in the Saybrook College master's house, 90 High St., and will deliver a speech on "The Strawberry Worker's Struggle: Latinos, Labor, and the Fight for Justice" at 7 p.m. in Levinson Auditorium of the Law School, 127 Wall St. (See Visiting on Campus, page 4.)
