Student ballet troupe to stage performance of 'The Nutcracker'

"The Nutcracker," Tchaikovsky's tale about a magical Christmas gift, will be performed twice on Sunday, Dec. 7, by the Cecchetti Students Ballet Company.

One of Tchaikovsky's most popular ballets, "The Nutcracker" tells the story of Clara, a young girl who receives a nutcracker dressed as a soldier for a Christmas gift. The magical nutcracker eventually transports Clara to a land of enchantment.

The 80-performer troupe will present the ballet at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the University Theatre, 222 York St. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. Yale students with a valid I.D. can purchase tickets at half-price. Group rates are also available.

This production of "The Nutcracker" is cosponsored by The Cheshire Dance Centre and The Barrington Ballet. The not-for-profit Cecchetti Students Ballet Company is also seeking other corporate and individual sponsors for the production.
