Opening of Buttery/Cafe; Super Bowl party highlight events at McDougal Center

Graduate students will have a chance to satisfy their appetites for victuals, information and gridiron competition in a series of activities taking place this month at the McDougal Center in the Hall of Graduate Studies, 320 York St.

The center's Buttery/Café will open the week of Jan. 19 in the McDougal's common room. The student-run café will serve coffee, tea, cold beverages, cookies and other baked goods, yogurt, fresh fruit and cereal. It will be open mornings and evenings Monday-Friday.

Representatives of the Yale Health Plan (YHP) will conduct an open house for graduate students Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 20 and 21, noon-4 p.m. in Rm. 119 of the McDougal Center. Students can get information on any aspect of the YHP, including out-of-area coverage, benefits, wellness programs and stress management. There will also be free blood pressure screenings and free giveaways.

Yale alumni and faculty will discuss the value of a doctoral degree in both the academic and nonacademic worlds in a seminar titled "The Humanities Ph.D.: A Dynamic Profile," on Saturday, Jan. 24. The seminar, which is open free of charge to graduate students in the humanities and social sciences, will take place 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in Rm. 119 of the center; lunch will be served. Finally, the McDougal Center will host a Super Bowl party for graduate students in Rm. 119 on Sunday,
Jan. 25. Those attending can enjoy snacks and beverages while watching the action on the center's big-screen television. Game time is 6 p.m.
