Head of children's advocacy group to discuss need for new laws

Shelley Geballe, cofounder and codirector of Citizens for Connecticut's Children and Youth and a lecturer in the department epidemiology and public health at the School of Medicine, will talk about her organization's legislative priorities for the state of Connecticut on Friday, Feb. 6, at noon in the Sterling Memorial Library lecture hall, 120 Wall St.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Bush Center in Child Development and Social Policy.

A 1976 graduate of Yale Law School, Ms. Geballe served for 10 years as associate legal director of the Connecticut Civil Liberties Foundation, where she brought successful class action litigation on behalf of abused and neglected children, children and adults living with HIV disease, runaway youth held in juvenile detention centers, and other vulnerable citizens. She has taught in the disability rights and prisoners' rights projects in the Jerome Frank Legal Services Organization at the Law School.

Citizens for Connecticut's Children and Youth was formed in 1995 as a grass-roots membership organization to advocate the well-being of children and youth in the state.
