Day Care

The Early Childhood Education Program at the Yale Child Study Center responds to questions from Yale faculty, students and staff concerning child care centers on the campus and in the community. Day care directories are available to Yale faculty, students and staff, as well as members of the New Haven community, at the Yale Child Study Center, 230 South Frontage Rd., or at the Benefits Office, 155 Whitney Ave. The free directory describes child care programs in the Greater New Haven area.

Interested individuals are also encouraged to visit the Early Childhood Education Program web site at www.Yale.edu/daycare.

Dining Services

Members of the Yale community and their guests are welcome to take advantage of any of the more than 20 dining facilities located throughout the campus. These include dining halls in each of the residential colleges and in several of the graduate and professional schools, as well as a number of retail operations.

In addition to providing food services on a daily basis, Yale Dining Services Catering Office provides food services for departmental and University events as well as weddings and other special occasions for members of the Yale community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni. The Catering Office is located at Commons Dining Hall, College and Grove streets. For information, call 432-0470.

Cash purchases are welcome at all Yale dining halls and for all special services. Meal contracts are available to students at the Dining Services Accounting Office, 294 Elm St. For information, call 432-0420.

Retail facilities

Retail facilities are operated by Yale Dining Services at six campus locations. Students, faculty, staff and other members of the Yale community and their guests are welcome at all times. Following is a description of retail facilities.

Lunch is served daily at Lord's Cafeteria, located at the west end of the historic Commons dining hall. Hours are 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. For information, call 432-0455.

Durfee Sweet Shoppe, located in Durfee Hall on the Elm Street side of Old Campus, offers an extensive selection of subs, soft- serve yogurt, candy, freshly baked goods, beverages and freshly brewed specialty coffees. Hours are 11 a.m.-1:30 a.m. Monday- Thursday, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday and 8 p.m.-1:30 a.m. on Sunday. For information call 432-0451.

Continental breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as beverages and snacks, are served at the Law School Dining Hall, located in the Sterling Law Building, 127 Wall St. Hours are 8 a.m.-6:45 p.m. Monday-Friday. For information, call 432-0446.

The School of Management's Donaldson Commons, located at 140 Prospect St., serves breakfast, lunch and snacks five days a week. Hours are 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. For information, call 432-3400.

The A&A Penthouse, located on the eighth floor of the Art and Architecture Building, 180 York St., overlooks the University and the City of New Haven. This facility features a wide variety of cold sandwiches, pastries and beverages. Hours are 9:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. For information, call 432-0452.

The Kline Biology Tower Dining Hall is located off Prospect Street atop Science Hill. Located on the 12th floor, the dining facility offers a panoramic view of the city and Long Island Sound. The North Dining Room's "speed service" features continental breakfast 8:45-11 a.m. and lunch (hot and cold sandwiches, soup and salad bar) 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The South Dining Room offers a more leisurely service with a variety of hot entrees, soup, desserts and beverages 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. For information, call 432-3402.

School of Medicine Dining Services

The 1997-98 school year begins a new era in medical school dining with the opening of Marigolds at the School of Medicine. Marigolds is open from 7:30 a.m. until late night, Monday-Friday. It offers continental breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night snacks in the newly renovated dining area of the Edward S. Harkness dormitory, located at 367 Cedar St. The menu features traditional as well as special cuisine, a deli, grill, sauteed foods cooked to order, soft-serve frozen yogurt, a salad bar, assorted desserts and a variety of hot and cold beverages. All students, faculty, staff and guests may take advantage of this new eatery, where transfers are welcome.

The School of Medicine also offers Marigolds Express, a catering department. Experienced staff members have catered everything from simple delivery meals to full dinners, luncheons and receptions. For more information, call 785-4685.
