Medical school researcher lauded for his studies of biomechanics

Manohar Panjabi, a professor of orthopedics and rehabilation at the School of Medicine, has been selected by the awards committee of the American Society of Bio-mechanics (ASB) to receive the Giovanni Borelli Award, the society's highest recognition for scholarly achievement. The award for career accomplishment is presented to the investigator who has conducted "exemplary" research in the many areas of biomechanics. The criterion for selection includes originality, quality, depth of research and its relevance to the field of biomechanics. Professor Panjabi's work, which focuses on the spine and the mechanism of whiplash injury, has been at the forefront of research in this field for many years. He will receive his award at the 21st annual meeting of the American Society of Biomechanics this month.
