Campus Notes

The Chamber Singers of the Yale Glee Club and of the Freshman Chorus will present a joint concert at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 27, in Christ Church,
84 Broadway. Pamela Getnick will direct the Glee Club singers and Rebecca Rosenbaum will direct the Freshman Chorus singers in a program of works by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Monteverdi, Byrd and others. Admission to the concert is free, and the public is invited.

J.D. McClatchy, editor of the Yale Review, will read from and sign copies
of his two new works on Wednesday, April 1, 4-5:30 p.m. at Book Haven, 290 York St. His new books are "20 Questions," in which he meditates on the mysteries of poetry and its relationship to life, and "10 Commandments," a collection of poems concerning the impact of values on the young and old. Refreshments will be served.

Fenno Heath, the Marshall Bartholemew Professor Emeritus of Choral Music and former director of the Yale Glee Club, will serve as master of ceremonies for a concert on Saturday, April 4, featuring the Connecticut Chamber Orchestra. The event celebrates the 15th anniversary of the South Central Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The concert begins at 8 p.m. at The Church of the Redeemer, corner of Whitney Avenue and Cold Spring Street, New Haven, and will feature works by Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, Vivaldi, Holst and Copland. Tickets are $12.50 in advance; $15 at the door. ($7 for children under age 12). For further information, call 230-1777.

Yaledancers will present a spring performance Thursday-Saturday, April 2-4, at 8 p.m. at the Educational Center for the Arts, 55 Audubon St. Tickets are $4 in advance; $5 at the door. For reservations or more information, call Jenn at 764-7046.

The final two Thursday book discussions in the "Books Sandwiched In" series sponsored by the Friends of the New Haven Public Library will feature Yale affiliates. On March 26, Dr. Stanley A. Leavy, retired clinical professor of psychiatry at the School of Medicine, will discuss "Casanova: The Man Who Really Loved Women" by Lydia Flem and translated by Catherine Temerson. On April 2, Murray Biggs, associate professor adjunct of English and theater studies, will talk about Helen Vendler's "The Art of Shakespeare's Sonnets." The discussions will take place 12:10-12:50 p.m. at the United Church on the Green, corner of Temple and Elm streets. Attendees are invited to bring their own lunch; coffee, tea and cookies will be served in the church basement 11:20 a.m.-12:10 p.m.
