English Language Institute

The English Language Institute, the official program of English instruction at Yale, offers the following courses for the fall term. Classes begin the week of Sept. 15 and continue for 11 weeks, ending Friday, Dec. 5.

The courses are designed for graduate and professional students whose academic or professional goals require an advanced level of English language proficiency, and whose specific academic goals include improvement of oral presentation skills, expository writing skills, strategies for academic argument, and American English pronunciation. Information about the courses follows:

Advanced Writing Workshop -- Kirk Hughes, instructor. The class meets Monday and Wednesday, 2:30-4 p.m. in Schroeder Study, Calhoun College, 189 Elm St.

Introductory and Advanced Pronunciation Workshops -- William Vance, instructor. Time and place to be announced.

Integrated Skills -- Section I, with instructor Susan Weldon, meets Monday and Wednesday, 9:30-11 a.m., in Schroeder Study, Calhoun College; Section II, taught by Rob Nelson, meets Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30-11 a.m., in Schroder Study; Section III, also instructed by Rob Nelson, will meet Tuesday and Thursday, 5-7:30 p.m. in a location to be announced.

International Teaching Assistants' Course -- Time and location to be announced; call the institute office for more information.
