The Bush Center in Child Development and Social Policy will begin its fall luncheon series on social policy issues on Friday, Sept. 19, with a talk by Michael Morand, assistant secretary for education and human development at the University's Office of New Haven Affairs. Mr. Morand will address the topic "Universities, Communities and Children: Partnerships between Yale and New Haven" at noon in Rose Alumni House, 232 York St. The event is free and open to the public.

As part of Yale's Office of New Haven Affairs, Mr. Morand serves as a liaison to the New Haven Public Schools and as a representative to the city's Board of Alderman. He also is a chief liaison to undergraduate and graduate/professional student volunteer groups.

A former alderman for the City of New Haven, Mr. Morand is currently president of the board of directors of the New Haven Free Public Library and serves on the boards of several city and state organizations, including the business advisory committee of the State of Connecticut's Commission on Children. He was presented a 1994 Citizen's Award for Meritorious Service from the New Haven Department of Police Service and was listed in a 1996 issue of Business Times New Haven as one forty individuals under the age of 40 who are notable for their professional achievement and community service.
