Lee Blessing's 'Eleemosynary' will raise curtain on the 1997-98 season at the Yale Cabaret

The Yale Cabaret will again serve up a diverse menu of drama and delectables when it opens its 1997-98 season on Thursday, Oct. 2, with a production of "Eleemosynary."

Wade McIntyre, artistic director of
the Yale Cabaret, will direct the Lee Blessing play, which tells the story of three women -- Dorothea, her daughter Artemis and her granddaughter Echo -- who struggle among themselves to uncover the real meaning of the word "eleemosynary," or "given in charity."

Located at 217 Park St., the Yale Cabaret is a completely student-run
theater that operates within the School of Drama. Each weekend throughout the academic year, the cast and crew produce a different show.

In addition to Mr. McIntyre, this year's creative team includes associate artistic directors Christopher deHaan, Vivian Keh, Cahir O'Doherty and Jane Shaw; managing director Ruby Tugarde; and technical director Ray Kent.

While audience members watch
the show, they can also partake of the culinary creations produced by chef Kristyn LaPlante in the Yale Cabaret's restaurant.

"The Yale Cabaret is the heart and soul of the School of Drama," says Ms. Tugade. "There is so much talent, vitality and promise here. We want to share this magic with as many people as possible."

Among the noted actors who performed at the Yale Cabaret during their student years at Yale are Meryl Streep, Sigourney Weaver, Henry Winkler, Angela Bassett, David Alan Grier and Frances McDormand.

There are performances Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. and
11 p.m., and the doors open at 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., respectively. Because seating is limited, those planning to attend Friday or Saturday are advised to make reservations.

Single tickets to the Yale Cabaret performances are $6. Memberships are available at $40 and $45; members are offered free admission to special events and may bring guests at a reduced price of $5 per person. There is a food and drink minimum of $3 on Thursdays and $4 on Fridays and Saturdays.
