"Sexual Energy and Menopause" will be the title of a talk on Tuesday, Oct. 21, by Barbara Dobay, assistant clinical professor of nursing in the adult nurse practitioner program at the School of Nursing and a nurse midwife in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Yale University Health Services. Professor Dobay will discuss the emotional, sexual and physical changes that occur during menopause. The talk will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the New Haven Lawn Club, 193 Whitney Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

The Connecticut Academy of Arts and Sciences, a scholarly society affiliated with Yale, will present a talk by Professor Helen Lang of the University of Hartford at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Hamlin Hall of Trinity College in Hartford. Her topic will be "Philosophy, Mathematics and Science: The Role of Laboratories." The talk is free and open to the public. For more information, call 432-3113, ext. 2.

Yale affiliates will be the featured speakers in the next two "Books Sandwiched In" book discussions sponsored by the Friends of the New Haven Free Public Library. On Thursday, Oct. 23, Rita Lipson, senior lecturer in Slavic languages and literatures, will discuss David Remnick's "Resurrection: The Struggle for a New Russia." On the following Thursday, Oct. 30, R.W.B. Lewis, professor emeritus of English and American studies, will offer his thoughts about Joseph Blotner's new work "Robert Penn Warren: A Biography." The free book discussions take place 12:10-12:50 p.m. at the United Church on the Green, corner of Temple and Elm streets. Those who attend are invited to bring their own lunch; coffee, tea and cookies will be available in the basement of the church 11:20 a.m.-12:10 p.m.

Sara Laimon, an adjunct professor of piano at the School of Music, will perform with 11-year-old violinist Maya Shankar on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in Sudler Hall of William L. Harkness Hall, 100 Wall St. The concert will feature the works of Grieg, Handel, Kreisler, Sarastate and Kroll. Tickets are $50; $35 for students. Proceeds will benefit the Clifford W. Beers Guidance Clinic, Inc. in New Haven, which offers a range of outpatient mental health services. For concert tickets, call Dr. Pramila Nathan, medical director of the Clifford W. The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) has selected Dr. Pietro De Camilli to be its 16th Keith R. Porter Lecturer. The Porter Lecture is considered to be a highlight of the annual meeting of the ASCB, which will be held this year in December in Washington, D.C. Dr. De Camilli is a professor of cell biology and an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His talk at the meeting will have special significance this year since Keith Porter died last May. A special retrospective of Porter is also being planned as part of the Porter Lecture presentation.

Lynn Kalinauskas, who received her Ph.D. from Yale two years ago, has been appointed an assistant director of Undergraduate Career Services, where she will advise students and alumni on employment, fellowships, internships and advanced study opportunities in East Asia. As part of her reponsibilities, Ms. Kalinauskas will also be program coordinator of the R. U. Light Fellowship Program at the University. After completing doctoral work in modern Chinese literature at Yale, Ms. Kalinauskas was a lecturer at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. She recently organized and led a study tour for Alberta students in Harbin and Beijing, China.
