Day Care

The Early Childhood Education Program at the Yale Child Study Center responds to questions from Yale faculty, students and staff concerning child care centers on the campus and in the community. Information is also available on selecting a child care program. For further information, contact Susan Abramson, administrative coordinator, at 785-2512, or via e-mail at susan.abramson@Yale.edu.

Day care directories are available to Yale faculty, students and staff, as well as members of the New Haven community, at the Yale Child Study Center, 230 South Frontage Rd., or at the Benefits Office, 155 Whitney Ave. The free directory describes child care programs in the Greater New Haven area.

Interested individuals are also encouraged to visit the office's website at www. yale.edu/daycare.

Dining Services

Visitors to the campus and University affiliates have numerous choices for dining on campus. All members of the Yale community and their guests are welcome to dine in any of 20 different dining facilities. The following is a description of campus dining options.

Residential Dining

The 12 residential colleges, the Hall of Graduate Studies and University Commons offer an "all-you-can-eat" style of service. Lunches and weekend brunches cost $7.95 per person; dinner is $10.50 per person. Menus feature a wide selection of choices from vegan to vegetarian to unrestricted, including ethnic variations and gourmet creations on Thursday nights.

Retail Operations

Seven retail facilities on campus offer all members of the Yale community meals and snacks. Each one regularly features vegetarian entrees. They are:

Kline Biology Tower Dining Rooms, located on the 12th floor of Kline Biology Tower, 219 Prospect St. -- The North Dining Room features a SaraLee deli, grilled sandwiches, a full salad bar, a soup-of-the-day and assorted desserts. The South Dining Room offers a more leisurely service with a medley of hot entrees with an accompanying starch or vegetable, soup, salad, and a variety of desserts. Private dining arrangements for small groups may be made.

School of Management Dining Hall, 140 Prospect St. -- Also known as Donaldson Commons, this facility offers a full breakfast, lunch and snacks. Lunch choices include a made-to-order SaraLee sandwich station, soups, a fresh salad bar, a grill station, a variety of hot entrees prepared in full view of the customers and baked goods.

Divinity School Refectory, 409 Prospect St. -- This fall (1998) marks the inauguration of the campus' newest retail facility. Traditional continental breakfast items are offered. Lunch features a SaraLee deli, soup-of-the-day, pre-made salads, an assortment of bottled and fountain beverages, and desserts.

Law School Dining Hall, 127 Wall St. -- The Law School administration operates this retail facility. Continental breakfast features traditional baked goods accompanied by gourmet coffees and teas. Lunch offers seasonal soups, SaraLee sandwiches made-to-order, a grill station, hot entrees and desserts. Dinner features selected hot entrees with appropriate starch and vegetable accompaniments and desserts.

Durfee's, located in Durfee Hall at198 Elm St. -- Durfee's offers made-to-order SaraLee subs, a freshly made soup, an extensive selection of pre-made salads, candy, bottled beverages, frozen yogurt, smoothies and snacks. Beginning in the fall of 1998, convenience items will be available as well.

Art & Architecture Penthouse,180 York St. -- This small dining area offers SaraLee sandwiches, soup, selected grilled sandwiches, bagels and muffins, snacks and assorted beverages.

Marigolds at the School of Medicine, located in Edward S. Harkness Dormitory, 367 Cedar St. -- This dining area is located in the newly renovated section of Edward S. Harkness Dormitory, and is open 7:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Marigolds features traditional as well as special cuisine, a deli, grill, sautéed foods cooked to order, soft-serve yogurt, a salad bar, assorted desserts and a variety of hot and cold beverages.

The School of Medicine also offers Marigolds Catering, which provides everything from simple delivery meals to full dinners, luncheons and catered receptions. For more information call 785-4685.

Special Services

University Catering provides food services for a wide variety of departmental as well as University events. Members of the Yale community celebrating a special event such as a wedding, or a bar or bat mitzvah may also use catering services. For information, call Rosemary or Lisa at 432-0470 weekdays.

Dining Services' Bake Shop welcomes retail sales for decorated cakes, assorted tea cookies and truffles, muffins and danish, and specialty upscale desserts, to name just a few. Forty-eight hours advance notice is needed. Call Jodie at 432-0474 weekdays before 2:00 p.m. to request a flyer or place an order. Bakery products must be picked up at Commons by the customer.

A Vending Services Debit Card is for those who buy vended snacks or beverages. There is no charge to get a card, but you cardholders must prepay a balance. Approximately 45 of the 150 vending machines on campus are equipped with a debit card reader. Call Beth weekdays before 3 p.m. at 432-0455 for more information.

Any member of the faculty or staff may open a University Charge Account. Individuals with charge accounts may charge meals or snacks in any Yale Dining Services facility, transfer up to $20 to a Vending Services Debit Card, or buy baked goods from Yale's Bake Shop.
