Yale College awards junior faculty prizes to historian and biologist

A historian and a biologist have been named as the winners of two 1998 prizes for junior faculty in Yale College, Dean Richard H. Brodhead has announced.

The Samuel and Ronnie Heyman Prize for outstanding scholarly publication or research by a junior faculty member in the humanities has been awarded to Steven Stoll, assistant professor of history. Stoll was honored for his book "The Fruits of Natural Advantage: Making the Industrial Countryside in California," which will be published by the University of California Press in 1999.

The Arthur Greer Memorial Prize has been awarded to Craig Crews, assistant professor of molecular, cellular and developmental biology. Established by the alumni of the Book and Snake Society in honor of Arthur Greer '26S, the prize provides support for outstanding research projects by junior faculty members in the social or natural sciences. Crews was honored for his work on the development of natural biologically active compounds.
