Series on British history concludes with three talks

The department of history will complete its series of lectures on the theme "Whither Early Modern British History?," which began last term, with three lectures this fall. The series has been exploring this question in the light of recent changes and controversies in the field, once simply called Tudor-Stuart history. More recently, there has been an increasing emphasis on studying England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland as separate entities, according to the series' organizers.

The three lectures remaining in the series will all be held at 4 p.m. in Rm. 211 of the Hall of Graduate Studies, 320 York St.

Wednesday, Sept. 23 -- "The Future of British and Irish History" by John Morrill, professor of British and Irish history at the University of Cambridge; Thursday, Oct. 8 -- "Some Reflections on the History of Britain in the Wider World, ca. 1450-1700" by David Harris Sacks, professor of history and the humanities at Reed College; and Monday, Oct. 12 -- "Not Drowning, But Waving: The Field Traditionally Referred to as Tudor-Stuart History?" by Cynthia Herrup, professor of history and law at Duke University.
