Newly created fund will bring noted personalities to campus

Robert and Mary Lou Morgado of Harrison, New York, have created a fund that will support annual visits to Yale and Calhoun College by well-known public personalities.

Designated the "Morgado Family Partners Fund," the fund will be administered by the Master of Calhoun College for the purposes of bringing to the Yale campus a "prominent person in the entertainment, media or sports realm to meet with students on an informal basis as well as to give a formal talk or demonstration for the University at large."

Guests brought to Yale under the auspices of the fund will be known as "Morgado Fellows." The Master of Calhoun College will create a small working committee consisting of students and fellows of Calhoun to advise him on the selection of guests and to assist in the administration of the program.

Robert and Mary Lou Morgado are the parents of two recent Yale graduates, Greg Morgado '96 and Matthew Morgado '98, both of whom resided in Calhoun College during their undergraduate years.

Yale College Dean Richard H. Brodhead stated: "I want to thank the Morgado family for the latest evidence of their affection for Yale. The visitors the Morgado Family Partners Fund will bring to campus will enliven Yale College and put Yale students in closer touch with the world."

Dr. William H. Sledge, the current master of Calhoun and professor of psychiatry at the School of Medicine, expressed gratitude for what he called "a far-sighted gift by a devoted Yale family, which will benefit the cultural life of Calhoun and of Yale as a whole." He added: "Residential college life, which is one of the hallmarks of a Yale education, is known for the broad range of intellectual stimulation it provides. The Morgado Fellows will become a vital part of this rich cultural activity."
