Yale hosts annual student Science Fair
This year more than 2,000 students and teachers from the New Haven Public Schools participated in the annual Science Fair sponsored by Yale University, Olin Corporation, Bayer Corporation and the Connecticut Pre-engineering Program. On March 11, parents, mentors and judges joined the students and teachers at Yale University Commons for a diverse display of enthusiasm and science projects.
University's summer youth sports program wins award
In January, Yale was awarded the Silvio O. Conte Award of Excellence in recognition of the exceptional 2001 National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) run by Tim Ford of Yale University Athletics and Queen Edwards, the program's activities director.
The program, in its fifth year, was recognized for outstanding leadership by the staff, exceeding projected enrollment, expansive programming and increased involvement from the New Haven community. In addition, all participants were served a breakfast and a hot lunch daily.
Sandra's opens on Whitney
Yale University's Community Investment Program helps local business grow. Sandra's Restaurant opened on Whitney Avenue in January. This local, minority-owned business is now flourishing at two locations in New Haven.
