The School of Drama -- led by Dean James Bundy -- is one of the nation's most prestigious training grounds for all professional theater disciplines, from playwriting to acting to design, directing, dramaturgy and production. Every year, over 1,000 applicants vie for just 60 openings at the school.
The school's alumni can be found both onstage and backstage in theaters throughout the world, and both onscreen and behind the camera in thousands of television and movie productions. Almost every year, School of Drama alumni are among the winners of Tony, Emmy or Academy awards. Six Yale drama alumni were recently honored with Tony Awards for the hit Broadway musical "The Light in the Piazza." Meryl Streep, the two-time Oscar winner who has received the most nominations for an Academy Award (13), is an alumna of the School of Drama, as were Pulitzer Prize-winning playwrights Wendy Wasserstein and Thornton Wilder.
Throughout the year, School of Drama students hone their skills by creating their own productions, giving the public an opportunity to experience the future of American theater today. They also showcase their talents at the student-run Yale Cabaret.
