Faculty Research Database. Yale faculty have been pursuing research abroad since the earliest years of the 19th century. Today, faculty members from all of Yale's schools are involved in a multitude of international research projects and collaborations in every part of the world. The database is regularly updated as new information becomes available. "Yale and the World" Website. The "Yale and the World" website (http://world.yale.edu/) serves as a gateway to the global aspects of the University. In addition to the Faculty Research Database (see above), the "Yale and the World" website features information and links for international students applying to Yale College. Organized both by geographical region and by topic, the site gives Yale students ready access to all of the University's international resources and activities -- including scholarships for overseas study, relevant courses and programs, library and museum collections, and services for Yale's international community. Grants and Fellowship Database. The Grants and Fellowship Database (http://studentgrants.yale.edu/) is a centralized source of information about hundreds of Yale-funded and administered fellowships for undergraduate, graduate and professional school students. While most of the fellowships are for international study, travel and research, many are for domestic or non-specific opportunities (e.g. the Truman, Udall and Goldwater scholarships for undergraduates). Office of International Students and Scholars. Over 4,000 international students and scholars from over 100 countries call Yale their home-away-from-home, and ensuring their welfare is the goal of the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS). The office serves as a resource on immigration matters for the Yale community (for example, all members of the international community must bring their passport and immigration documents to OISS when they arrive in New Haven), and it is the University's liaison to the federal agencies concerned with matters related to international students and scholars studying and working at Yale. OISS staff also assist members of the international community with issues concerning their social and personal adjustment to life in the United States, as well as other personal matters and concerns. In addition, OISS coordinates the activities of the International Center for Yale Students and Scholars (see related item) and co-sponsors many social and informational events for foreign students and scholars along with Yale's Office of International Affairs (see related item). Office of International Affairs. The Office of International Affairs (OIA) supports the international activities of all schools, departments, offices, centers and organizations at Yale. Recent major projects include: working closely with the Office of International Students and Scholars to sponsor orientations (see item, above) and other activities for Yale's international community; compiling a comprehensive database of the memoranda of understanding that Yale schools and centers have signed with overseas institutions; publishing a "Yale and the World" reference manual and maintaining the website of the same name (see item, above); coordinating schedules for visiting international delegations to Yale; and facilitating contacts with foreign universities and governments, as well as with Yale alumni living abroad for the benefit of faculty and students.
