Hong Kong celebration. Members of the Yale Club of Hong Kong took part in a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the close cooperation between the Yale-China Association and New Asia College, now part of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The festivities included banquets; a symposium on the politics, economics, art and culture of Hong Kong; presentations by current Yale-China program participants; and an excursion to the New Territories.

Alumni Chorus. In July the 230 members of the Yale Alumni Chorus, led by director Jeffrey Douma, traveled to Brazil, Argentina and Chile for a three-week "Gift of Song Tour." The group gave a series of performances for music lovers in renowned concert halls and with the most celebrated orchestras on the continent, as well as in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Included among the singers were two alumni who had participated in the Yale Glee Club's 1941 tour to the region, part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Good Neighbor Policy" -- a trip that inspired a collegiate choral singing tradition in South America. This was the fourth major international concert for the Yale Alumni Chorus.

Educational tours. Throughout the year, the Yale Alumni Association offers University graduates and their families an opportunity to visit exotic locales, while expanding their educational horizons, through tours led by Yale faculty. This year's offerings included "Alaska: A Family Voyage to the Last Wilderness" with Professor Stephen Stearns of ecology and evolutionary biology; "Waterways of Russia Aboard the M.S. Yesenin" with Professor John Lewis Gaddis of political science and history; and "Macchu Picchu" with Professor Richard Burger of anthropology and the Peabody Museum and Lucy Salazar of the Peabody Museum.
