Blood drive

A blood drive will be conducted at the School of Medicine on Wednesday, May 5, 1-5:45 p.m. in the lounge of Edward S. Harkness Memorial Hall, 367 Cedar St.

Treatment study

People suffering from panic attacks -- with symptoms including racing heart or shortness of breath -- or from excessive anxiety and worry are invited to participate in a treatment study at Yale's Anxiety Disorders Research Clinic.

Free evaluation, biological testing and treatments are available to people in good health between the ages of 18 and 65. For more information, call Sarah Saiano at 764-5960, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.


Society meeting

The Society for Philosophy and Psychiatry will meet Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m. in Rm. 208, Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall St.

The meeting will feature a panel discussion titled "Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome: Disordered Mother or Disordered Diagnosis? A Panel Discussion on the Nature, History, Medical and Legal Aspects of MbPS." Featured on the panel will be David Allison and Mark Roberts, professors of philosophy at SUNY Stony Brook and authors of "Disordered Mother or Disordered Diagnosis? Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome"; Thomas Ryan, a defense attorney and legal authority on MbPS; Eric Mart, a psychologist who has served as an expert witness in a number of Munchausen cases; and Colleen Callan, an award-winning freelance investigative reporter who has covered medical and legal issues for The Daily News, Newsday and The Village Voice. A general discussion will follow.

Road race

The fourth annual road race presented by the Connecticut Mental Health Center Foundation will take place Saturday, May 15, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club in Branford.

Both runners and walkers are invited to participate in the event, which consists of a 5K run or 1.5-mile walk through the Pine Orchard section of Branford. Registration begins at 4 p.m. and will feature aerobic stretching, a thumb print artist and double Dutch jumpers. The event will also include an awards ceremony, buffet dinner, auction and "hoppin' hoe down."

Adult donations are $15 for the race only; $30 for the hoe down and buffet; or $40 for the race, hoe down and buffet. For children under 12, the costs are $5 for the 1.5-mile walk or Fun Run, or $20 for the race, hoe down and buffet.
