Movie theaters 'pitch in' to raise funds for Yale pediatric programs
By tossing a quarter into an aquarium this summer, not only would you help pediatric patients at the School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics and Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, you might also win a free movie pass.
Movie theater owners around Connecticut are participating in a benefit program to raise funds and provide fun to movie-goers at the same time. Developed by the Connecticut Association of Theatre Owners (CATO), "Pitch In and Win!" will continue through Sept. 4.
Each theater will set up an aquarium in its lobby filled with water and a small glass at the bottom. By pitching quarters into the glass, participants will win a free movie pass to the theater, and proceeds will go to the School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
"Not only will children and adults enjoy the fun all summer, but pediatric patients all over the state will benefit," says Jan Weiswasser, director of pediatric community affairs and development at the School of Medicine. "This is a wonderful program."
Last year, CATO announced that it would provide $250,000 over the next 10 years for the care of children treated in regional pediatric specialty centers operated jointly by Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and the School of Medicine.
