"Feminist humor maven" will speak at campaign school
Regina Barreca, dubbed the "feminist humor maven" by Ms. Magazine, will be the guest speaker at a Women's Campaign School at Yale dinner on Thursday, June 15.
A professor of English literature and feminist theory at the University of Connecticut, Barreca is a media expert who has appeared on such television shows as "20/20," "48 Hours," "The Today Show" and "Oprah." She was appointed as an adviser to the Library of Congress for her work on humor and the American character and has been invited as a keynote speaker at events worldwide, including the International Women in Leadership Conference in Australia, the annual meeting of the Women in Federal Law Enforcement in Washington and Harvard College Women's Initiative.
Barreca writes a weekly column for The Hartford Courant and is the author of "They Used to Call Me Snow White, But I Drifted: Women's Strategic Use of Humor," "Perfect Husbands (and Other Fairy Tales): Demystifying Marriage, Men and Romance" and "Sweet Revenge: The Wicked Delights of Getting Even." She has also edited "The Erotics of Instruction," "The Penguin Book of Women's Humor" and "The Signet Book of American Humor."
The Women's Campaign School dinner will take place at the Graduate Club, 155 Elm St. The cost of the event is $50; reservations must be made by Friday, June 9.
