Senior Rob Doyle broke the school record
in the 5,000 run at the Penn State
National Open on Jan. 26.



Men's Basketball (6-10, 3-0 Ivy)

This Week: Feb. 2 at Pennsylvania, 7 p.m.

Feb. 3 at Princeton, 7:30 p.m.

Sophomore Chris Leanza (Parma, OH) made the 100th three-pointer of his career against Penn State. He is only the seventh Yale player to accomplish that feat. Leanza, who has made at least one three-pointer in 25 straight games, is on pace to challenge Ed Petersen's school record of 229 career treys.


Women's Basketball (5-12, 0-4 Ivy)

Feb. 3 vs. Princeton, 7 p.m., John J. Lee Amphitheater

Junior Meg Simpson (Marietta, GA) scored a season-high 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Brown.


Men's Fencing (3-3, 0-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 23 -- Yale 26, Brandeis 1

This Week: Feb. 3 vs. Pennsylvania, 1 p.m., Payne Whitney Gym

Junior Cameron Hill (Los Angeles, CA) and sophomores Kevin Sladek (San Marcos, TX) and Marc Holden (Los Alamos, CA) all went 3-0 in the epee in the victory over Brandeis.


Women's Fencing (6-1, 1-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 23 -- Yale 20, Brandeis 7

This Week: Feb. 3 vs. Pennsylvania, 1 p.m., Payne Whitney Gym

Freshmen Zane Selkirk (New York, NY) and Jennifer Joseph (Cerritos, CA) both won all three of their bouts in the foil in the win over Brandeis.


Gymnastics (2-1, 1-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 27 -- Yale 190.450, Pennsylvania 186.625

This Week: Feb. 4 at Rhode Island Invitational

The Bulldogs had three individual winners in the victory over defending Ivy League champion Pennsylvania. Sophomore Andrea Wolf (Seattle, WA) won the bars with a 9.775, sophomore Shoshanna Engel (Louisville, KY) captured the beam with a 9.8 and freshman Jamie Green (Los Angeles, CA) had the top all-around score (38.475).


Men's Ice Hockey (10-9-0, 6-6-0 ECAC)

Last Week: Jan. 27 -- Yale 8, Notre Dame 2

Jan. 28 -- Notre Dame 4, Yale 3

This Week: Feb. 2 at Clarkson, 7 p.m.

Feb. 3 at St. Lawrence, 7 p.m.

The victory over Notre Dame before a crowd of 5,110 at the New Haven Coliseum was head coach Tim Taylor's 278th at Yale, which ties him with Murray Murdoch for the most in school history.

Senior Jeff Hamilton (Englewood, OH) had six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in the two games against the Fighting Irish and now is only seven shy of the Yale school record held by Mark Kaufmann '93.


Women's Ice Hockey (2-16-2, 1-14-1 ECAC)

Last Week: Jan. 27 -- Yale 1, Wayne State 1

This Week: Feb. 3 at Dartmouth, 3:30 p.m.

Feb. 4 at Boston College, 7 p.m.

Junior Sara Wood (Randolph, MA) scored at 13:32 of the third period as Yale earned a 1-1 tie with Wayne State. Junior Katie Hirte (Cottage Grove, MN) made 30 saves in goal.


Men's Squash (11-1, 2-0 Ivy)

Sophomore Aftab Mathur (Mumbai, India) won three matches in No. 1 position.

Senior Catherine Fiederowicz (Litchfield, CT) was a 3-0 winner in the No. 1 position against Amherst.


Men's Swimming (8-0, 4-0 EISL)

This Week: Feb. 2-4 at Princeton, w/Harvard

Freshman Alex Nash (Los Angeles, CA) and senior George Gleason (St. Croix, VI) were triple winners in the victory over Penn. Nash captured the 100 (52.34) and 200 (1:51.83) backstrokes and the 100 butterfly (52.49), while Gleason won the 50 (21.15) and 100 (46.05) freestyles and the 200 individual medley (1:51.80).


Women's Swimming (9-0, 4-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 27 -- Yale 158, Pennsylvania 131

Yale 191, Dartmouth 88

This Week: Feb. 2-4 at Princeton, w/Harvard

Yale had four double winners against Pennsylvania and Dartmouth. Sophomore Kim Richardson (Wilton, CT) won the 100 (1:00.47) and 200 (2:07.54) backstrokes, sophomore Susan Cooke (Vero Beach, FL) captured the 100 (1:06.38) and 200 (2:22.61) breaststrokes, senior Meredith Bryarly (Conroe, TX) won the 50 (24.19) and 100 (52.83) freestyles, and senior Shannon Dunlap (Mayfield Heights, OH) won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events.

Princeton Invitational

This Week: Feb. 3 vs. Connecticut, 10:30 a.m., Cullman Courts

VS. Boston University, 2:30 p.m., Cullman Courts

Senior Greg Royce, the No. 7 seed, lost to top-seeded Brian Vahaly of Virginia 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals of the A Flight singles at the Princeton Invitational. The doubles team of Royce and freshman David Goldman (Miami, FL) lost in the quarterfinals.

At the Harvard Invitational, junior Ryan Coyle (Tulsa OK) won a pair of matches to reach the quarterfinals of the B Flight singles.


Women's Tennis (1-1, 0-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 27 -- Michigan 7, Yale 0

Next: Feb. 12 vs. Massachusetts, 2:30 p.m., Cullman Courts

Yale dropped four of the singles matches to Michigan in three sets.


Men's Track & Field (1-1, 1-1 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 26 -- 8th at Husky Invitational (14.5 pts)

This Week: Feb. 3 vs. Cornell/Bucknell, Coxe Cage

Senior Rob Doyle (Chicago, IL) broke the school record in the 5,000 run on Jan. 26 at the Penn State National Open. Doyle ran a time of 14:13.9 to place second overall. The school record that Doyle broke had been set in 1982, making it the longest-standing indoor track record at Yale.


Women's Track & Field (2-0, 2-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Jan. 26 -- 4th at Husky Invitational (48 pts)

This Week: Feb. 3 vs. Cornell/Bucknell, Coxe Cage

Yale had three second-place finishes at the Husky Invitational -- junior Sikira Backus (Princeton, NJ) in the 200 dash (25.72) and the 400 dash (58.52) and senior Melanie Harris (New Rochelle, NY) in the weight throw (18'5" meters).
