Prize-winning portraits

Alicia Mora van Altena, a senior lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, was awarded top prizes for these two photos taken in Bolivia. "The Streets of Latin-American Villages" won first prize in a contest organized by a Spanish publishing company named Diffusion; "Street Vendors" won second prize in the contest. The Yale lecturer was awarded with cash and with the honor of having her first-place photo on the cover of Diffusion's annual catalog. The winning photos were selected on the basis of their ability to convey a Spanish-speaking culture.
