In an effort to inform the Yale community about new initiatives and changes in services in a timely and comprehensive fashion, Information Technology Services (ITS) is launching The Circuit, a new online newsletter to be published the first Friday of each month.
Among the top stories in the debut issue are:
* A notice that -- as of Tuesday, Feb. 6 -- those moving files to or from a Pantheon server account will be required to use a secure file transfer program (FTP), since the current non-secure access programs will not work as of that date. The Circuit article includes information about simple and secure FTP software alternatives for Windows, Macintosh and Unix users.
* A look at the successful upgrade of the ITS telecommunications system over winter break. In addition to outlining the advantages of the new system, the story includes information about who to call if problems occur.
* News that ITS Data Networking Operations plans to test-run wireless computer access in general student areas this spring.
* The announcement of two recent ITS appointments.
In addition to expanded news and explanations on all the above, The Circuit website will feature contact information and links to other relevant websites.
