Yale SOM honors chair of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission at Leaders Forum
The Yale School of Management (Yale SOM) presented its first award for Distinguished Leadership in Global Capital Markets to Arthur Levitt, chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The ceremony, held Jan. 11 at the New York Public Library, was part of a "Leaders Forum" in which Yale SOM brought together leaders from the world's financial community to discuss the future of global markets.
William J. McDonough, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, was master of ceremonies at the event. Yale SOM Dean Jeffrey E. Garten hosted the event. Henry M. Paulson Jr., chair and chief executive officer of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., and John F. Welch of General Electric presented welcoming remarks. Participants hailed from investment banks, commercial banks and stock exchanges in the United States, Europe and Asia, as well as accounting and law firms, industry and the U.S. Senate.
The Distinguished Leadership in Global Capital Markets Award recognizes "those who have had a significant impact furthering the efficiency, safety and soundness of the international financial system."
At the ceremony, Garten noted, "The award to Arthur Levitt reflects the Yale School of Management's perspective that leadership in global capital markets begins with technical expertise but extends far beyond, to include an understanding of the powerful global forces reshaping our society, and the courage to make decisions even in the face of enormous uncertainties."
