Conference will explore the impact of spirituality on health
There will be a conference on "Spirituality and Health for Everyday Life" on Saturday, Feb. 17, at St. Thomas More Chapel and Center at Yale, 268 Park St.
The event is sponsored by the Divinity School's Gladys Goldman Fund and the Saint Raphael Healthcare System in cooperation with Spirituality and Health magazine and the Institute for the Advanced Study of Religion at Yale.
The program will feature lectures and panels on the following topics: "Why Wellness? The Rise and Relevance of the Wellness Movement," "The Meaning of Health Within a Theological Value System," "Scientific Research on Spirituality and Health," "Lourdes Wellness Model of Community Health: An Experience of Spirituality and Healthcare" and "The Body in Spiritual Practice: A New Asceticism." There will also be workshops on "Aesthetics in the Spiritual Life: Art, Spirituality and Healing Creativity" and "Hatha Yoga and Taize Chant."
The keynote speaker will be Dr. David B. Larson, president and founder of the National Institute for Healthcare Research, an organization committed to disseminating research on spirituality and health. His pioneering research on spirituality and health has underscored the importance of the former on an individual's mental and physical well being.
There is a $25 registration fee for the program ($35 at the door); students will be admitted for free. Space is limited.
