Freshman Scott Gaffield scored the winning basket in the Bulldogs' 80-78 overtime victory against Columbia on Feb. 10

Freshman Scott Gaffield (Ottawa, ONT) scored the winning basket against Columbia, a putback as time expired in the second overtime. Yale rallied from a 20-point second-half deficit, outscoring the Lions 30-10 in the final 16:18 of regulation.

Senior Neil Yanke (Akron, OH) returned to the lineup after missing three games with a sprained ankle. Against Cornell he made 7 of 10 shots from the field and finished with 16 points, and against Columbia he scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds.


Women's Basketball (6-15, 1-7 Ivy)

This Week: Feb. 16 at Dartmouth, 7 p.m.

Freshman Christina Phillips (Hartford, CT) had 13 points and seven rebounds, both career highs, in the victory over Columbia.

Senior Alyson Miller (Skokie, IL) had a season-high 11 rebounds against Cornell.


Men's Fencing (4-5, 0-2 Ivy)

This Week: Feb. 16-17 at Junior Olympics

Yale won the foil 7-2 and the epee 6-3 against Brown. Sophomore Daniel Senft (Bonn, Germany) won all three of his bouts in the foil against Brown, while junior Cameron Hill (Los Angeles, CA) was 3-0 in the epee.


Women's Fencing (9-2, 2-1 Ivy)

This Week: Feb. 16-17 at Junior Olympics

Freshman Sada Jacobson (Atlanta, GA) won all nine of her bouts in the sabre against Brown, Northwestern and Columbia. She is now a perfect 24-0 on the season.

Yale had three event wins in victories over Springfield, Rhode Island College and SUNY Brockport. Sophomore Andrea Wolf (Seattle, WA) won the vault (9.6), sophomore Jennifer Gold (Stamford, CT) captured the bars (9.625) and sophomore Shoshanna Engel (Louisville, KY) won the floor exercise (9.7).


Men's Ice Hockey (11-12-0, 7-9-0 ECAC)

This Week: Feb. 16 at Union, 7 p.m.

Feb. 17 at RPI, 7 p.m.

Sophomore Nick Deschenes (Morinville, ALB) scored the game-winning goal at 2:10 of overtime against Cornell. The win was No. 279 at Yale for head coach Tim Taylor, which makes him the winningest coach in school history.


Women's Ice Hockey (3-19-2, 2-17-1 ECAC)

Junior Sara Wood (Randolph, MA) had one goal and one assist against Harvard. Sophomore Deanna McDevitt (South Boston, MA) also scored.

Junior Katie Hirte (Cottage Grove, MN) made 30 saves against Brown.


Men's Squash (14-2, 4-1 Ivy)

Freshman Anshul Manchanda (Allahabad, India) won both his matches at the No. 1 position.

In the win over Dartmouth, junior Katharine Sands (Farmington, CT) won the decisive match in the No. 5 position.

Senior George Gleason (St. Croix, VI) was a double winner against Brown and Columbia. He captured the 100 freestyle (45.87) and the 200 individual medley (1:52.07). Other winners were freshman Alex Nash (Los Angeles, CA) in the 100 backstroke (51.66), freshman Jimmy Veazey (Hamden, CT) in the 200 butterfly (1:52.71) and freshman Jack Cooney (West Palm Beach, FL) in the 200 backstroke (1:50.26).


Women's Swimming (10-2, 5-1 Ivy)

Sophomore Susan Cooke (Vero Beach, FL) was a triple winner against Brown. She captured the 100 (1:06.45) and 200 breaststrokes (2:21.98) and the 200 individual medley (2:06.99). Senior Shannon Dunlap (Mayfield Heights, OH) won the 1 and 3 meter diving, and sophomore Kim Richardson (Wilton, CT) won the 200 backstroke.

Winners for Yale against Harvard and Princeton were senior Jason Rife (Lincoln, NE) in the 400 dash (49.45), senior Rob Doyle (Chicago, IL) in the 3,000 run (8:25.43) and sophomore Anthony Thomas (Bethel, CT) in the long jump (23' 4.5").

Sophomore Kate O'Neill (Milton, MA) won the mile run with a time of 4:47.03 against Princeton and Harvard. Kate's sister, Laura O'Neill (Milton, MA), won the 3,000 run in 9:50.25, and senior Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu (Chestnut Hill, MA) captured the long jump with a leap of 20'3".
