Yaledancers to perform spring concert at the Palace theater

Yaledancers, the University's oldest dance group, will perform its spring concert on Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31, at 8 p.m. at the Palace Performing Arts Center, 248 College St.

The event, part of Yale's Tercentennial celebration, will feature an array of dance forms, including pointe, classical ballet, jazz and modern dance. In addition, the dancers will perform excerpts from the Tony Award-winning musical "Fosse," and Steve Rooks, the former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, will be featured in a modern dance piece.

Dedicated to the choreography and performance of a far-reaching variety of dance, Yaledancers is composed of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as New Haven residents. Since 1973, the group has played a key role in promoting dance as an art form. Members of the group aim to increase appreciation of dance by teaching at local schools and participating in "Stand Up and Dance," a charity benefit concert that raises money for such New Haven organizations as AIDS Interfaith Network, the Douglas House and The Boys' and Girls' Club of New Haven.

Tickets for the spring concert are $15 for adults and $8 for students. For more information, contact the Palace Performing Arts Center box office at (203) 789-2120.
