A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 6, for musicologist Claude V. Palisca, the Henry L. and Lucy G. Moses Professor Emeritus of Music, who died on Jan. 11 at age 79.
The service will begin at 4 p.m. in Battell Chapel, corner of College and Elm streets. A reception will follow in the Graduate Club, 155 Elm St.
Palisca was acclaimed for his wide-ranging scholarship in late Renaissance and Baroque music. He was also a foremost scholar of early Baroque Italian opera. A proponent of music education in the United States, he had served on the Yale faculty from 1959 until his retirement in 1992.
