By winning the NCAA sabre title on March 25, freshman Sada Jacobson became the first Yale fencer to capture a national title in 19 years. She finished the regular season with a perfect 30-0 record and earned first team All-America honors. The women's fencing team placed ninth overall at the NCAA championships with 80 points.

Junior Jon Steitz (Branford, CT) pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out eight in the victory over Pace. He has 30 strikeouts in 20.2 innings this season, and opponents are batting just .160 against him.

Freshman Randy Leonard (Pembroke Pines, FL) batted .357 (5-for-14) in four games last week. He has hit safely in 9 of 10 games this season.

Sophomore Daniel Senft (Bonn, Germany) earned second team All-America honors in the foil by placing eighth at the NCAA Championships. Two other Yale fencers competed. Junior Cameron Hill (Los Angeles, CA) finished 19th in the epee, and junior Luke Ferreira (Cambridge, MA) was 22nd in the sabre.

Freshman Sada Jacobson (Atlanta, GA) captured the NCAA sabre title on March 25. Jacobson, who finished the regular season with a perfect 30-0 record, beat Temple's Sakinah Shaahid 15-9 in the semifinals and edged St. John's Marisa Mustilli 15-6 in the championship bout. Jacobson is the first Yale fencer to win a national title since Andrea Metkus in 1982. For her efforts, Jacobson earns first team All-America honors.

Freshman Zane Selkirk (New York, NY) and sophomore Sophie Jones (Atherton, CA) both earned honorable mention All-America recognition for their performance at the NCAA Championship. Selkirk finished ninth in the foil, while Jones placed 12th in the sabre. In addition, freshman Jennifer Joseph (Cerritos, CA) was 20th in the foil.

Gymnastics (7-3, 1-0 Ivy)

Next: April 7 -- NCAA Regionals (at Michigan)

The Bulldogs captured the ECAC title for the first time, and the team score of 192.975 was the second highest in school history.

Freshman Jamie Green (Los Angeles, CA) won the ECAC vault title with a 9.75 and placed second in the floor exercise with a 9.9.


Men's Lacrosse (3-2, 1-1 Ivy)

This Week: March 31 vs. Princeton, 1 p.m., Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium

Junior Brian Hunt (Mashpee, MA) scored two goals and added four assists against Cornell. Junior Marko Lujic (North Haven, CT) had two goals and two assists.


Women's Lacrosse (5-0, 2-0 Ivy)

March 24 -- Yale 13, Dartmouth 7

This Week: March 28 at Fairfield, 3 p.m.

April 1 at Harvard, 1 p.m.

Freshman Miles Whitman (Baltimore, MD) had seven goals and two assists against New Hampshire and had three goals in the victory over Dartmouth. For the season she leads Yale in scoring with 21 points (19 goals, 2 assists).

The Bulldogs beat Dartmouth for the first time since 1991.

Sophomore Jesseka Bartholomew (Lake Forest, CA) batted .480 (12-for-25) in eight games last week. She also hit the first home run of her career in the first game against Fairfield. Senior Kristen Maturo (Orange, CT) hit her first career homer against the Stags as well.


Men's Swimming (10-3, 6-3 EISL)

Senior George Gleason (St. Croix, VI) finished 11th in the 200 backstroke at the NCAA Championships with a time of 1:44.73.

Freshman David Goldman (Miami, FL) improved his spring record to 10-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the No. 2 position against Rutgers.
