With only 1.9 seconds left, senior Katherine Myers scored the game-winning goal against Harvard on April 1. At 7-0, the women's lacrosse team is off to its best season start since 1997.

Junior Jon Steitz (Branford, CT) struck out 14 and scattered seven hits to earn a complete-game victory against Princeton.

In the victory over Cornell, junior Craig Breslow (Trumbull, CT) pitched the first eight innings and struck out 16, the most by a Yale pitcher since Dan Lock fanned 16 against UNC-Greensboro in 1994. For his efforts he was selected as the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week.

Sophomore Dave Fortenbaugh (Rocky River, OH) hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning in the win over Cornell.

Yale captured the Joy Cup by defeating MIT. In addition to winning the varsity race, the Bulldogs captured the second varsity and first and second freshman races.


Women's Crew (2-0, 2-0 Ivy)

Last Week: March 31 -- Yale 5:55.5, Penn 6:03.9, Columbia 6:05.6

This Week: April 7 at Cornell, with Syracuse

Yale captured the Connell Cup with 20 team points. The Bulldogs also won the second varsity race.

Sophomore Jordanna Davis (Syosset, NY) was Yale's medalist at the William & Mary Invitational. She had a two-round score of 159 to tie for 19th.


Gymnastics (7-3, 1-0 Ivy)

This Week: April 7 -- NCAA Regionals (at Michigan)

Sophomores Jennifer Gold (Stamford, CT) and Andrea Wolf (Seattle, WA) and freshman Jamie Green (Los Angeles, CA) were selected to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships.


Men's Lacrosse (3-3, 1-2 Ivy)

This Week: April 4 at Brown, 3:30 p.m.

April 8 at Duke, 1 p.m.

Junior Brian Hunt (Mashpee, MA) scored twice against Princeton, and junior Marko Lujic (North Haven, CT) added two assists.

Yale won the Harvard game in thrilling fashion. Senior Katherine Myers (Ardsley-on-Hudson, NY) scored the game-winning goal with 1.9 seconds left in the second half.

At 7-0, the Bulldogs are off to their best start since the 1997 team won their first eight games.


Softball (12-12, 0-0 Ivy)

Freshman Shayna Filson (San Ramon, CA) batted .467 (7-for-15) with four home runs and 11 RBI in the six games. The four home runs ties the Yale single season record set by Khelia Johnson in 1999. Filson also pitched two games and had a 1-0 record with one save.

Junior Cara Denver (Vancouver, WA) pitched 23.1 innings in four games, allowed only three earned runs and had 12 strikeouts. Against Army she tossed a five-hit shutout and had four strikeouts.


Men's Tennis (13-1, 0-0 Ivy)

This Week: April 6 vs. Pennsylvania, 2:30 p.m., Cullman Courts

April 7 vs. Princeton, 12:30 p.m. Cullman Courts

Yale won all six singles matches in straight sets, including in the No. 1 position where sophomore Steve Berke (North Miami, FL) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.


Women's Tennis (7-4, 0-0 Ivy)

April 7 at Princeton, noon

Freshman Margaret Purcell (Lake Forest, IL) dropped the first set but rallied to win the next two 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.

Junior Thomas Hocker (San Jose, CA) finished first in the 400 meter hurdles at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 51.55.

Sophomore Laura O'Neill (Milton, MA) placed second with a time of 34:52.12 in the 10K at the Raleigh Relays.
