Junior Craig Breslow pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 Harvard players during the Yale baseball team's 7-0 victory over the Crimsons on April 13.

Junior Craig Breslow (Trumbull, CT) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 in the victory over Harvard. The only hit was a single to left-centerfield leading off the seventh inning.

Junior Doug Feller (Dover, OH) and freshman Michael Boardman (Los Angeles, CA) combined to shut out Iona. Feller went six innings and allowed only two hits to earn the victory, and Boardman pitched the last three innings to earn his first career save.


Heavyweight Crew (1-0, 1-0 Ivy)

This Week: April 21 at Pennsylvania, w/Columbia

In addition to winning the varsity race, Yale also captured the second varsity and first freshman races.

This Week: April 21 vs. Dartmouth/Rutgers, 10 a.m., Derby, Connecticut.

April 22 vs. Cornell/Georgetown, 10 a.m., Derby, Connecticut.

With the wins over Columbia and Pennsylvania, Yale captured the Dodge Cup.

The Bulldogs also won the second varsity and first freshman races.


Women's Crew (5-1, 4-0 Ivy)

3) Dartmouth 6:10.2

This Week: April 21 vs. Princeton, 9 a.m., Derby, Connecticut.

With the wins over Boston University and Dartmouth, Yale won the Class of '85 Cup.

Season Complete

The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced on April 11 that William & Mary will be recognized as the team champions of the 2001 ECAC Championships. Yale offered to concede the team title to William & Mary after a clerical error was discovered on the official score sheet after the results were declared final by the officials. "I am tremendously proud of the Yale women's gymnastics team to determine that William & Mary was the true competitive champion in this meet," said ECAC Commissioner Phil Buttafuocco. "Although William & Mary was declared the event champion, Yale is certainly champions in the eyes of many."

Sophomore Mike Scaglione (Huntington, NY) scored five goals and added two assists in the victory over Albany.

The Bulldogs played Princeton and Pennsylvania on the new William O' DeWitt Jr. '63 Family Field.

Freshman Shayna Filson (San Ramon, CA) became Yale's single-season home run record holder when she hit her fifth in the second game against Quinnipiac. She topped the mark of four Khelia Johnson set in 1999. It was also Yale's eighth homer of the season, which ties the school record set by the 1987 team.

Freshman Jillian Miles (Canyom, CA) pitched a pair of complete game victories. Against Pennsylvania she tossed a five-hitter, did not allow an earned run and struck out two. Against Quinnipiac she scattered nine hits, allowed two runs and struck out two. She has won her last four decisions and has allowed only three earned runs in her last 24 innings.

Sophomore Steve Berke (North Miami, FL) won all three of his matches in the No. 1 position. He is now 9-4 overall and 5-0 in Ivy League matches.


Women's Tennis (9-6, 3-1 Ivy)

Against Cornell, junior Susie Hiniker (Ann Arbor, MI) rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the first set to win 7-5 in the No. 4 position. She then took the second set 6-2 to improve her Ivy League record to 3-1.

Yale had three winners in the 38th annual Yale-Harvard, Oxford-Cambridge meet. Senior Ryan Barrows (York, NE) won the 800 run in 1:52.45, senior Joel Montgomery (Tuscaloosa, AL) captured the 110 hurdles in 14.99 and freshman Derin Bray (Dallstown, PA) placed first in the high jump with a leap of 6' 2.75".

Actor Bill Cosby served as the honorary starter for the meet.

Junior Sikira Backus (Princeton, NJ) won the 100 dash in a meet record time of 12.18 seconds at the Yale-Harvard, Oxford-Cambridge meet. Other Yale winners were: senior Jennifer Newsom (Golden Valley, MN) in the 200 dash (25.44), sophomore Anika Kreider (Chatham, NJ) in the 400 dash (58.25), senior Emily Estey (Wellfleet, MA) in the 800 dash (2:15.39), junior Jessica Thomas (Charlotte, NC) in the 400 hurdles (1:02.99) and senior Melanie Harris (New Rochelle, NY) in the hammer throw (161'6").
