Yale had two pitchers ranked among the April 15 NCAA leaders in strikeouts per nine innings. Junior Jon Steitz (Branford, CT) was fourth (12.7) and junior Craig Breslow (Trumbull, CT) was fifth (12.5). Presently, Steitz has 77 strikeouts in 56.1 innings, while Breslow has 55 strikeouts in 44.2 innings. The NCAA will release updated leaders on April 24.

Sophomore Mike Hirschfield (Oyster Bay, NY) singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in the 3-2 victory over Dartmouth. It was his second game-winning hit of the season.

Senior Louis Aurelio (Fort Myers, FL) won the Ivy League individual title in a playoff. He sank a six-foot putt for par on the first hole of the playoff. For his efforts, he earned First-team All-Ivy honors. Freshman Neel Williams (Monroe, LA), who tied for seventh with a three-round score of 230, also earned First-team All-Ivy honors.

Senior Mike Morris (Lutherville, MD) scored from 10 feet out with nine seconds left in the victory over Dartmouth.

Junior Brian Hunt (Mashpee, MA), who had five assists in the win over Harvard, was third in the nation in points per game in the April 17 NCAA rankings. The NCAA will release updated leaders on April 24.


Women's Lacrosse (10-4, 5-2 Ivy)

Freshman Miles Whitman (Baltimore, MD) had three goals and three assists in the victory over Brown. She leads the team in overall scoring with 32 goals and five assists for 37 points.

Freshman Shayna Filson (San Ramon, CA) hit Yale's ninth home run of the season in the victory over Dartmouth, which is a new school record. Filson, who has hit six of the round-trippers, is only two shy of the Yale career record held by Karen Yarasavage (1984-87).

Senior Kristen Maturo (Orange, CT) has 69 career RBI. She needs only four to tie the school record of 73 held by Mandy Taft (1994-97) and Khelia Johnson (1997-2000).


Men's Tennis (17-4, 4-3 Ivy)

This Week: Season Complete

Sophomore Steve Berke (North Miami, FL) won both of his matches at the No. 1 position. He finished undefeated in Ivy League matches with a 7-0 record.

Yale's three victories clinched second place in the Ivy League.

Juniors Susie Hiniker (Ann Arbor, MI) and Liz Oosterhuis (McLean, VA) both were three-set winners in the victory over Harvard.

Senior Jason Rife (Lincoln, NE) was a double winner in the meet with Harvard. He captured the 200 dash with a time of 21.57 and won the 400 run in 48.50.


Women's Track & Field (0-1, 0-1 Ivy)

Next: May 5-6 at Heptagonal Championships

Yale had four individual winners in the meet with Harvard. Sophomore Kate O'Neill (Milton, MA) won the 1500 run (4:31.77), sophomore Laura O'Neill (Milton, MA) captured the 3,000 run (10:00.10), senior Jennifer Newsom (Golden Valley, MN) won the 200 dash (25.23) and senior Emily Estey (Wellfleet, MA) won the 800 run (2:11.80).
