Yale will receive an award on the occasion of its Tercentennial from the Interfaith Cooperative Ministries (ICM) of New Haven at a ceremony on Thursday, May 10, at 5:30 p.m. in the Bradley Room of the United Church on the Green.
The Reverend Howard Nash, copresident of ICM and pastor of St. Bernadette Church, says the award is being given "in appreciation for the commitment and contributions made by Yale to the local community. We recognize and salute the University as a good friend and neighbor."
ICM, composed of 38 religious congregations throughout the city, includes representatives of many faiths, including Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Moslem and Quaker. Founded in the early 1970s as the Downtown Cooperative Ministries, the organization was renamed several years later and defined its mission to include all religious faiths working together for the common good, Nash says.
ICM founded Columbus House, a shelter for the homeless; the Community Soup Kitchen and Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, both of which feed the homeless; FISH, a self-help group; and New Haven's chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
For more information, contact Nash at (203) 467-1007.
