Yale Health Plan members were innoculated against the flu by students at the School of Nursing.

YSN students join in effort to ward off the flu

The School of Nursing (YSN) and the Yale Health Plan administered free flu vaccinations to 148 University employees and affiliates on Nov. 2.

A total of 148 vaccinations were administered by YSN Graduate Entry Pre-specialty in Nursing students within a three-hour period.

The program was organized by Robin Levenduski, R.N. of the Office of Health Promotion at the Yale Health Plan and Linda Pellico, medical surgical nursing coordinator at YSN. "This program was a terrific success," commented Pellico. "Each YSN student administered at least five vaccinations. It was a great experience for them, and provided a much-needed service to the Yale community."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the influenza season in the United States is from November through April each year. People of any age can get influenza. This year especially, the CDC is recommending that people get their flu shots early because anthrax symptoms mimic early flu symptoms.
