Quarterback Peter Lee honored as an outstanding scholar-athlete
Bulldog quarterback Peter Lee '02 has been honored for his performance both on the field and in the classroom by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
Lee is one of 16 students who will receive a prestigious National College Scholar-Athlete Award at a dinner to be held in New York on Dec. 11.
The student athletes being honored represent all divisions of college football. They were selected based on their superior academic performance (a grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale), outstanding football ability, strong leadership and citizenship. Each will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.
Lee, an economics major from Chicago, Illinois, is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the country on the Division I-AA level.
After transferring to Yale from the University of Wisconsin following his sophomore year, Lee improved his 3.8 grade point average to a perfect 4.0 in his junior year. His name appears regularly on the Dean's List, and he was inducted into the National Honor Society of Collegiate Scholars in 1999.
This is Lee's second year as the Yale starting quarterback after a record-setting 2000 campaign. Taking every snap of last season, Lee set school single-season passing records in completions (192) and completion percentage (61.9) while tying the touchdown record (19). In less than two full seasons, he has surpassed 3,000 passing yards and 30 touchdowns.
Lee also takes time out of his strict practice and study regimen to give back to the community as a children's hospital volunteer and a member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Yale Tutoring/Mentoring programs.
