Arturo Bris



Arturo Bris named Haas Assistant Professor

Arturo Bris, who was recently named the Robert B. and Candice J. Haas Assistant Professor of Corporate Finance at the Yale School of Management (SOM), is an expert in corporate finance, financial intermediation and market microstructure.

His research focuses on the effect of the market for corporate control on stock prices and the relationships between the market for corporate control and capital structure. His interests cover the application of market microstructure tools and game theory to corporate finance problems and the implementation of empirical tests using advanced econometric methodologies. Bris has also worked on banking regulation, analyzing the effects of capital requirements and the new European banking laws, as well as the regulation of the market for corporate control in Europe.

Bris has two forthcoming articles: "Corporate Leverage and Currency Crisis" in the Journal of Financial Economics and "Toehold, Takeover Premium and the Probability of Being Acquired" in the Journal of Corporate Finance. He is currently writing papers on insider trading laws, corporations and currency crises, and bank capital requirements and managerial self-interest.

A native of Spain, Bris holds bachelor's degrees in economics and law from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a master's degree from Centro de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros (CEMFI) and master's and doctoral degrees from INSEAD (the European Institute of Business Administration). He joined the Yale SOM faculty in 1998.

The Financial Management Association gave Bris the Best Paper Award at the 2001 European Meeting, and the Southern France Association gave him the prize for Outstanding Paper in 1997. He also earned the Hispanogestión Graduate Student Award in Finance in 1988.

Bris has held Euroforum, Bank of Spain and CEMFI fellowships, and this year received the Association of Yale Alumni's Annual Teaching Award.
