Visitor Center relocates

The Visitor Center has moved to a temporary location in Dwight Hall on Old Campus until December while its current space undergoes renovation.

Free campus tours will originate from Dwight Hall daily at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The center will continue to provide University maps and brochures. For more information, call (203) 432-2300.


M.F.A. painting exhibition

The School of Art will present an M.F.A. painting thesis exhibition on Jan. 28-Feb 9 at Holcombe T. Green Gallery, 1156 Chapel St.

The exhibition will feature the work of Iona Brown, Francisco Delgado, Ficre Ghebreyesus, Ezra Hoffman, Barri Lester and Jaime Ursic. It will be open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; an opening reception will be held 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1.

YUWO scholarships

The Yale University Women's Organization (YUWO) is offering scholarship awards to women whose formal education has been interrupted or delayed and who wish to resume their studies, or enhance or change their careers.

Members of the Yale community and their family members are eligible for the awards. Present staff members and wives of staff members will be given first consideration. Applicants are judged upon merit and need.

Applications for the 2002-2003 academic year may be obtained by writing to Connie Marsden, 32 Hunting Ridge Farms, Branford, CT 06405-6131. Applicants should state their Yale affiliation and enclose a self-addressed, stamped, business-sized envelope. The deadline is March 1. For more information, call Mrs. Marsden at (203) 481-1795.


Volunteer mentors sought

Volunteer mentors are being sought by Bright Beginnings, a program developed by the Friends of Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, that matches mentors to young, pregnant women between the ages of 15 and 24 who receive their prenatal care at the Women's Center.

Bright Beginnings mentors support young mothers in developing healthy lifestyles for themselves and their children and help enhance the women's self-esteem. A mentor training will be held 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the hospital. To register, call Alix Elkin at (203) 688-2297. For more information, contact Lyla Johnson at (203) 764-5936.


Magnet School information

The Early Childhood Education Program will present two magnet school information session this month.

The sessions are for pre-K through grade 8 (elementary and middle schools). Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the magnet school lottery; meet representatives who will answer questions; and receive applications.

The first session will take place noon- 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan 23 at the Beaumont Room, 333 Cedar St. The second session will take place noon-1 p.m. in Rm. 119, Hall of Graduate Studies, 320 York St.

Call for artists

The fifth in a series of exhibits is being planned for the Yale Physicians Building Art Place on March 21.

Artists from the University, medical center and hospital communities are invited to submit their work for consideration. Artists must complete an application and submit a portfolio of work with a minimum of 10-15 prints, slides or the actual works between the dates of Feb. 18-21.

Agrarian Studies grants

The Program in Agrarian Studies has some limited funds available to foster interdisciplinary work in any field on agrarian themes.

Support is available on a competitive basis for the following activities: preliminary on-site planning of research; supplementary interdisciplinary work; and student colloquia and institutional reciprocity.

Sculpting exhibit

An exhibition by Diane Platt, a sculptor and educator, is currently on view at the Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library, 333 Cedar St.

Titled "Sculpture in Copper, Steel and Glass," the exhibit includes selected works completed within the last seven years. The works will be on view until Feb. 8. Exhibition hours are 8 a.m.-midnight, Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on Fridays; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturdays; and 9:30 a.m.-midnight on Sundays. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Institution recycling meeting

The Institution Recycling Network (IRN) will host a meeting on institution recycling 8:30 a.m.-noon on Thursday, Jan. 24 in Dwight Hall, 67 High St.

Topics will include "Universal Waste: Making a Program Work," "Electronics Recycling" and "Construction and Demolition Debris Management." A tour of the University's recycling program will take place after the meeting.

There is no cost for the meeting. As space is limited, advance registration is required. To register for this meeting, visit the IRN website at www.ir-network.com, and go to the "Contact Us" option. Check off "Reservations," select the comment category of "Meetings," and type in "Yale 1-24-02" in the comments section. Complete the contact information in the section below and hit "Submit." Undergraduate art exhibition

Undergraduate Studies in Art will sponsor an undergraduate comprehensive exhibition on Jan. 17-26.

Work from fall 2001 undergraduate art classes in drawing, painting, photography, graphic design, sculpture and printmaking will be on display at Holcombe T. Green Jr. Hall, 1156 Chapel St.

Exhibit hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., every day. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (203) 432 2608.


Toner recycling program

The Purchasing Department and Corporate Express have made arrangements for departments to recycle empty laser printer toner cartridges and buy Flo-Tech recycled cartridges.

The program consists of free preventive maintenance cleaning, a free asset management program, low service rates and free technical support. For more information, call Corporate Express at (800) 852-4659.


Employees invited to free games, shoot-out

The Department of Athletics will host a "Winter Employee Day" on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium.

The event will consist of swimming and basketball doubleheaders. At 1 p.m., the men's and women's swimming teams will take on Lehigh at Kiphuth Exhibition Pool. At 5 p.m., the women's basketball team will play Brown, followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m.

The basketball events will also feature a basketball shoot-out between staff members of eight University departments during each halftime period. Three staff members from each department are eligible to compete. The winning department will receive a "Wing Party" at an upcoming Yale basketball game of their choice. Departments that are interested in competing should contact Pat O'Neill at (203) 432-2205.
