Yale seeks nominees for 2001 Seton Elm-Ivy Awards

Yale's Office of New Haven and State Affairs is seeking nominations of candidates for the 2001 Seton Elm-Ivy Awards.

The annual awards recognize outstanding individual effort to strengthen partnerships among the New Haven and Yale communities. The 2001 awards will be presented this spring.

The Seton Elm-Ivy Awards were established in 1979 and are made possible by Fenmore Seton (Yale College Class of 1938) and his wife, Phyllis, who are associate fellows of Calhoun College. The Setons endowed the program through the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. The first Elm and Ivy Awardees were named in 1980. Since that time, 228 individuals have been honored.

"The City of New Haven and Yale University enjoy a strong relationship, with success evident in efforts to create new companies and jobs, increasing neighborhood homeownership, academic partnerships in the public schools, and a vital downtown that is a center for retail, restaurants, residency, and arts and culture," says Michael J. Morand, associate vice president for New Haven and state affairs.

"This cooperative relationship between Yale University and its hometown community works because of the commitment and leadership of countless people on campus and throughout New Haven," he adds.

Each year, outstanding individual effort to expand the partnership between "town and gown" is recognized through the Seton Elm-Ivy Awards. Individual Elm Awards are given to adults in the New Haven community. Ivy Awards are given to Yale staff and faculty, undergraduates and graduate/professional students.

A nomination form may be requested by sending e-mail to barbara.campbell@yale.edu or calling the Yale University Office of New Haven and State Affairs at (203) 432-9630. Nominations should submitted to the Office of New Haven and State Affairs no later than Feb. 6.
