Usually, the Cultural Caravan, a traveling show
sponsored by the African American Cultural Center,
journeys to city classrooms to teach area youngsters about black history and culture. This time, however, the performers invited local elementary students to the University. In addition to the Cultural Caravan's performance at the Yale University Art Gallery, the day's excursion included a tour of campus, a visit to the exhibition about poet Langston Hughes at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library and lunch at the African American Cultural Center.

Among the groups that perform as part
of the Cultural Caravan is Konjo! --
one of the resident groups at Yale's
African American Cultural Center.

In a segment based on the television game show "Jeopardy!"
students from the audience answered questions about
aspects of African-American history and culture.

As they traced the historic journey of African-Americans,
performers presented a scene about slaves who found
freedom via the Underground Railroad.
