The Council on African Studies of the Center for International and Area Studies is accepting applications for the Lindsay Fellowship for Research in Africa competition.

This fellowship is made possible through a 1994 gift from George N. (B.A. 1941, LL.B. 1947) and Mary Lindsay. The general purpose of the fellowship is to increase understanding of Africa among Yale students and faculty. Highest priority will be given in the following order: graduate and professional school students; junior faculty; and undergraduate students. One or more fellowships of up to $3,000 will be awarded for summer travel and field work expenses in Africa for relevant research, study projects, internships or conferences.

The deadline is 4 p.m. on Friday, April 5. Further information and an application can be downloaded from www.yale.edu/ycias/african/lindsay.htm.

Individuals who are aged 60 or above, who have lost a spouse or other close family member within the past year and who meet criteria for a certain level of grief may apply. The project will provide bereavement support in group or one-on-one therapy. Participants will receive $75 compensation.

Goldman Sachs competition

The Goldman Sachs Foundation, in partnership with the Institute of International Education, has announced that sophomore students at Yale are invited to compete to be one of 100 "Goldman Sachs Global Leaders."

The program aims to create well-trained leaders who can operate effectively in complex, technology-driven environments and in varied cultural settings.

Each winner will be awarded $2,000. Fifty of the winners will be chosen to participate in a leadership institute in New York during the summer. The institute will feature a week-long series of activities and workshops facilitated by Goldman Sachs experts and distinguished faculty. Upon successful completion of the institute, each student will receive an additional $3,000.

For eligibility requirements and to submit an on-line application, visit www.iie.org/pgms/global_leaders/application/. The deadline for applications is March 25.
