Women's Health Research wins
grant for community outreach

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven has given $100,000 toward the endowment fund for Women's Health Research at Yale to help the program inform the community about landmark scientific studies and results.

The grant, for The Community Fund for Women's Health Research Awareness, will specifically support new community outreach and awareness activities by the program indefinitely.

"We are very grateful for the partnership of The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven," says Carolyn M. Mazure, professor of psychiatry, director of Women's Health Research at Yale and associate dean for faculty affairs at the School of Medicine. "This support will directly assist our efforts in providing pioneering research-based health information to the community."

Women's Health Research at Yale is committed to disseminating new scientific information that is useful to women and healthcare providers, says Mazure, noting, "The results of our studies are communicated through an ongoing series of community and research workshops designed to inform and educate the women and health care practitioners in New Haven and the surrounding community."

Current research supported by Women's Health Research at Yale includes, but is not limited to, investigations on breast and ovarian cancer, heart disease and depression.

Since 1928, donors to The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven have built a permanent endowment currently valued at approximately $223 million. In 2000, the foundation board of directors distributed $7.3 million from over 445 different named funds supporting grants in the areas of health, education, neighborhood building, regional and economic development, arts and culture, and other vital areas.
