Robert E. Lewis Award for Intramural Sports

Three Yale seniors received the Robert E. Lewis Award during Senior Class Day exercises on May 26.

The award is presented each year to the senior (or seniors) who has shown commitment and high ideals as a participant in intramural sports. The awards were presented by Robert Farris Thompson, master of Timothy Dwight College and the Colonel John Trumbull Professor of the History of Art, who chairs the Council of Masters Committee on Athletics.

This year's recipients are Regina Sieber of Berkeley College, who is from Tokyo, Japan, and majored in both environmental engineering and international studies; Andrea Stewart of Timothy Dwight College, who is from Lompoc, California, majored in history; and Joshua Zaharoff of Saybrook College, who is from Newton, Massachusetts, and majored in molecular biophysics and biochemistry.

Regina Sieber

You were the endlessly inspiring IM [intramurals] secretary of Berkeley. If a captain didn't show, you would take over, playing game after game after game. A superb student as well, you enter Yale's School of Management next year in their pilot program for environmental engineers. For your top-level sportsmanship, your intellectual accomplishment, we award you this cup with great pleasure.

Andrea Stewart

You were all over IM's. You psyched up your warriors, demanding their best through four solid years of intense participation. Scholar-athlete, freshman counselor, superb master's aide, you put your person on the line for us. As you enter career nursing, it's nice to know that others will benefit from your caring, sharing ways.

Josh Zaharoff

You were the spark behind Saybrook, winning the Tyng Cup in 1999, 2001 and 2002. Your leadership wrought a Tyng dynasty. Not only that but you were on your college council, an excellent student with a 3.5 average in MB&B [molecular biophysics and biochemistry]. As you enter "the real world" as an avid environmentalist, Saybrook will miss you. But your name will live forever in the annals of Lewis awards.
