Schools of Medicine, Nursing host class reunions
Fourteen classes of graduates from the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, including alumni of Yale's program in epidemiology and public health, will gather on campus Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8, for Reunion Weekend 2002.
The event will be "a special mix of the stellar accomplishments of our faculty, fabulous food, good company and a bit of old-fashioned nostalgia," writes Dr. Francis R. Coughlin Jr., president of the Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine, in this year's reunion brochure.
Highlights of the reunion events for the School of Medicine include a Saturday morning symposium focusing on women's health, with individual discussions on such topics as "The Growth of Women in Medicine: Progress That Benefits Us All," "How Women Were Admitted to the Yale School of Medicine in 1916," "Women's Health Research at Yale: Evolving Knowledge and Changing Practice," and "Women and Heart Disease: Translating Research into Practical Benefits."
Other reunion events include a reception hosted by Dr. David A. Kessler, dean of the School of Medicine; a talk on the history of plastic surgery and a tribute to the Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; tours of historic New Haven and of the new Congress Avenue Building and the Yale Center for British Art; and a New England clambake, which is open to all alumni attending reunions as well as faculty, students and guests. On Saturday morning, the Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine will present its Distinguished Alumni Service Awards to Dr. Daniel L. Arons M.D. '67 and Dr. Gilbert F. Hogan M.D. '57.

On Friday afternoon, a group of alumni will take part in a panel discussion on the topic "Public Health Preparedness: A View from the Field."
Also on Friday, the Association of Yale Alumni in Public Health will present its 2002 Distinguished Alumni Award to Sheila Wellington M.P.H. '68, the chief executive officer of Catalyst and former secretary of Yale.
